BJP claims Vijay Rupani’s victory by 25-30,000 margin, Congress thanks voters for vote against BJP

Rajkot, 15 October 2014

Rajkot West bypoll has witnessed 49.32% polling today. City BJP president Bhikhabhai Vasoya told DeshGujarat that this figure is as per expectation. When asked that actually 60% polling should be considered satisfactory, Bhikhabhai gave example of other rural areas of Porbandar, Dhoraji, Upleta where much lower voting was witnessed. He said Vijaybhai Rupani will be victorious with margin of 25-30,000 votes. Bhikhabhai said Vijaybhai is in public for last 40 years, and even smallest party worker in Rajkot has worked for him today.

DeshGujarat also spoke to Rajkot MLA who said Vijaybhai could win with a margin of 10-15,000 votes. He said voting has been lower but not unexpected because in by-polls, lower voting is not uncommon. He said Congress had only one agenda of casteism. Whether it has worked or not – will be known only when counting is done. He said if casteism could work on this seat, Vajubhai Vala couldn’t win this seat anytime in past.

Meanwhile state Congress president Arjun Modhwadia has in a statement thanked voters for casting vote against BJP even when the state government used entire government machinery to ensure BJP’s victory. Modhwadia said the voters have expressed their anger against BJP government by casting vote against BJP. He thanked party workers for their hard work in favor of Congress candidate Jayantibhai Kalaria.
