Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel will inaugurate the IRIS National Fair 2014 at Science City on Thursday at 19.00 hrs.
GUJCOST & Science City to host IRIS National Fair to encourage next generation innovators
The Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science (IRIS) is an Intel and Government of India collaboration initiative to popularize STEM and the spirit of innovation among students of Class 5 – 12.IRIS recognizes and rewards outstanding young innovators and provides a platform for these geniuses to represent India at global science forums such as the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in USA every year.
Winners at the ISEF not only win laurels for the nation but also get the opportunity to have a minor planet named after them.
The IRIS National Fair will take place from 4 – 7 December 2014 at the Science City in Ahmedabad, supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat.
The Gujarat Council on Science & Technology (GUJCOST) is the event Partner and Gujarat Science City is the Venue Partner.
More than 200 students will display their innovative projects across 17 subject categories.
Students, parents and teachers will have opportunity to visit the exhibition on Saturday, 6 December between 9.00 am – 6.00 pm.
A large number of distinguished scientists, school and college students are being invited to participate in the programme and to interact with the participating students.
IRIS Fair is being organised since 2006 annually for middle and high school (Grades 5-12) students and provides a platform for these geniuses to represent India at global science forums such as the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the USA.
The IRIS National Fair receives innovative project entries from government and private school students across the country. Students participate by sending a research synopsis on any one of 17 subject categories: Animal Sciences, Behavioural and Social Sciences, Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Planetary Science, Engineering – Electrical and Mechanical, Engineering – Materials and Bioengineering, Energy and Transportation, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medicine and Health Sciences, Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy and Plant Sciences.
Finally 17 bright students will be selected to represent India at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in the USA.
IRIS is platform that fits well with Intel’s vision to create an environment of innovation that will harvest new solutions that impact the human society directly by solving critical issues. This is an exemplary example of a public – private partnership heralded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India; Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Intel for empowering the next generation of innovators. The platform will eventually raise the bar in creating an environment for STEM led research and drive an ecosystem of new age thinking amongst the future generation of innovators
