AMC to establish Rs.120 crore 30 MLD CETP to control pollution by Danilimda Textile Units

Ahmedabad, DeshGujarat, 12 December 2014

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has got the permission from the state Government to establish new 30 MLD capacity CETP(Common Effluent Treatment Plant) to control the illegal water pollution in Sabarmati river by Danilimida-Behrampura textile units.

AMC had demanded assistance from the state government under the critical Infrastructure project. The state Government has also decided to give the GIDC(Gujarat Infrastructure Development Corporation) Estate status to the Danilimda-Behrampura small textile cluster mostly owned by Muslim artisans. Officially there are 269 registered units while there more than 556 units in to the textile screen printing business. The approximate project cost of the unit is around Rs.120 crore.

At present, the treated-untreated effluent is discharged in to the AMC pipeline and finally in to the Sabarmati river. The AMC pipeline does not have capacity to carry around 30 MLD per day untreated effluent so these units illegally discharge effluent in the Sabarmati River every day. Under the new CEPT plant all these units will be linked with the new pipeline with the new CEPT to control the pollution.

AMC will give land while most the fund will be given by the state government while the Ahmedabad Hand screen printing association will share nominal cost. Due to this illegal discharge of water common citizens of the area faces serious water logging and health problems every year. After the new CETP this problem may be controlled.

Construction of new CEPT at Narol at the cost of around Rs.130 crore is ongoing which may ease the pollution in the Sabarmati river in next two-three years.
