Sailing boat race in Surat

Like every year, Surat based national fighters sports club has organized sail boat race in Surat.

The competition is largely participated by those living in river/coastal side belt of Dumas locality. However it is watched by people from across the city, mainly from the location of Magdalla bridge.

According to organizers, this race is organized for last forty years here. As many as twenty thousand spectators watch it at a time. The race starts from Magdalla on the bank of river Tapi. However the real competition takes place from Hazira.

A boat that arrives first at prescribed location in Magdalla after about 30 km long round in river Tapi is considered winner and gets prize.

It is not that only those boats that are participating in this race sail in river during competitions. Many Surtis specially hire boats to travel to Hazira to cheer up their favorite team during the race.
