Senior BJP leader and Kanpur MP Murli Manohar Joshi today said the abandoned mills of National Textile Corporation could be again used for various industrial activities and for the purpose of training youths.
The lands of the non-functional mills under NTC could be used for industrial activities, and a ‘tool room’ can be set up in one of the mills to provide training to youths for employment opportunities, Joshi said in a statement issued by his New Delhi-based office.
Joshi gave the suggestion to officials of Textile Ministry during a meeting, it added.
The MP has suggested that a ‘tool room and training centre’ be created that can teach skills and newer techniques to the youth in city’s defence-related production and other manufacturing industries like plastic and leather.
The skills will help them gain better employment opportunities, it said.
Joshi has called a meeting of Urban Development Department officials to Kanpur on December 27 to highlight city’s development issues, it said.
The statement also added that with the aim of creating more defence industries in the city, Joshi has invited Defence Minister Mahohar Parrikar to the city in January next year.
