Flying knives: Kite string kills 5-year old boy in Vadodara

There has been another incident of tragic death due to kite string when Makar Sankranti(14th January, Kite flying day in Gujarat) is near.

A five year old boy, students of Vithal vidyalaya, Jayraj yadav died today in Vasna area of Vadodara city when he was coming back from school on two-wheeler with his mother.

This is at least second killing by kite string in Gujarat during present season of Uttarayan. Last month one person died in Surat following injury from kite string.The incident took place in Shekhpur village of Mahuva taluka in Surat.According to details available from Mahuva police which is investigating the incident, Vijaybhai Virsinhbhai Ghaudhary(MotaFaliya, Mardevi village of Valod taluka) was visiting doctor’s clinic with his son Ashish Chaudhary. When he was returning to home on bike, at around 6.00 pm his throat was cut by kite string.

He was taken to hospital through ’108′ emergency ambulance service where he was declared dead.

During and before Uttarayan festival, kite string kills at least half a dozen people across Gujarat every year. Hundreds of people across the state suffer minor to major injuries due to kite string which function like flying knives.

In Surat, the city administration bans vehicular traffic on some over bridges due to danger of kite string. In Ahmedabad, local civic authority permits voluntary organization to tie ropes on both sides of some of the over bridges to protect two-wheeler riders against the danger of kite string.
