In a strange incident, crude oil gushed out through the floor of a house located near an underground ONGC pipeline in Kadi town of Mehsana district today, police said.
The incident took place in the morning in the house of one Surendrasinh Rajput, they said.
“The crude oil started gushing out of the house floor and started spreading. The pressurised crude slush broke the floor tiles and spilled inside the living room,” said Kadi police inspector R R Patel who called ONGC officials and forensic experts to the spot to analyse the situation.
He said the underground pipeline could have ruptured which led to the incident.
“ONGC officials told us the spill could have been caused due to the damaged pipeline as the house is situated near it.
Luckily, the oil spread didn’t continue for long and stopped after covering small part of the house,” said Patel.
To a query, the officer said the construction of the house near the pipeline is not illegal.
