AMC’s unique idea to prevent councillors from sleeping during budget discussion(video)

To prevent Councillors from sleeping during budget discussion, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) today distributed chocolates and toffees among them.

This unique idea actually worked, and Councillors were found at least not sleeping today during the second and the last day of budget discussion.

On the first day of two-day long budget session of AMC, several Councillors were found sleeping. The first day discussed budget proposals for Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service(AMTS), VS hospital and MJ library budget proposals. In the post-lunch session some Councillors like Anand Daga, Manu Bharwad, Nitin Shah and Bhushan Bhatt were spotted sleeping on their chair. Some other Councillors were found talking on cell phone. Some were found accessing various applications on their smart phones. All these visuals were relayed by regional TV channels,as media cameras are allowed in AMC general board.A local Gujarati daily also published photographs of Councillors found sleeping on their seat.

Today, on the second and the last day of budget session, the AMC staff was seen distributing toffees to Councillors,so that they don’t sleep. Under continuous vigil of media, no Councillor wanted to take chance today anyway.
