Closure of another mall/multiplex in Gujarat, this one in Rajkot
March 13, 2015
Ahmedabad/Rajkot
There are about dozen small-major malls that have not been able to survive and therefore shut down in recent years in Ahmedabad due to not much response from people. Three such ‘Ghost’ malls are located right around easy ISKCON circle on SG Highway which are Big Bazar, Dev Ark mall and Fun Republic. Another mall in same area called Gallops Mall has been converted to commercial building after reconstruction. Beyond SG Highway, Pyramid mall is closed and continuing as ghost building for last many years at prime location near Parimal Garden. Vishal super market mall near Gujarat College has been converted to commercial complex.
It seems, similar is the trend in other parts of the state as well. The latest mall in news for similar reasons is Rajkot based Grand mall. Almost all showrooms are one-by-one closed in this mall due to poor response. Now the last commercial venture functional in this mall has also been closed. Cinemax multiplex, functioning in Grand mall is winding up its business here. Operators have applied for closure in district collector office. After payment of pending tax, operators will declare final closure.
