Gujarat CM thanks UK govt for opening Deputy High Commission office in Ahmedabad

Gandhinagar

The newly appointed British Deputy High Commissioner for Ahmedabad Geeoff Vain paid a courtesy call on Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel here today.

Mrs. Patel thanked the British Government for starting the new diplomatic office in the state’s premier city, which should go a long way of establishing its link with nearly 6-lakh Gujarati people living in Britain, besides issuing visa and guiding local tourists visiting Britain. Mr. Vain also looked forward to stronger relation between Britain and Gujarat.

The other Deputy High Commissioners’ offices of Britain now functioning in India are at Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Goa.

It may be recalled that the United Kingdom’s Trade Minister Lord Livingstone had announced the intent to start this office during the recent Vibrant Global Summit-2015 here.

Those present during the meeting included Chief Minister’s Chief Principal Secretary K. Kailashnathan and Secretary Ajay Bhadoo.
