Godhra

Gujarat government had made announcement to start two universities in the state this year in its budget. Chief Minister recently inaugurated one of these two universities at Junagadh recently. The university in Junagadh has been named after Gujarati poet Narsinh Maheta. The other university that the state government plans to start in tribal dominated central Gujarat area will be headquartered at Godhra town. It has been named as Guru Govind University.

The Chief Minister is likely to inaugurate new university on 23 May at Godhra polytechnic college building. Land for permanent building of university is in process of allotment at Vinzol.

According to a folk tale, over 1,000 tribal were killed by Britishers at Mangadh hill near Santrampur in Jaliyawala Bag like massacre. This resistance was led by Govind Guru. The university has been therefore named after Govind Guru, and it is believed that this decision has been taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. When Modi was Chief Minister he had organized a function at Mangadh hill to mark the sacrifice of tribal people during British rule. He had opined that it was shameful that such an important historical event didn’t get any attention in history.
