Curfew lifted from Patan and Surat

With quickly normalising situation in most parts of violence hit Gujarat, curfew has been lifted completely from the home town of chief minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel, Patan and some other places this morning, official sources said.

Superintendent of Police, Patan, Mr. Ashwini Chauhan told UNI that the curfew which was imposed yesterday has been lifted. ‘The situation is peaceful and there were no reports of any untoward incident since late last night,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Curfew has also been ended from the two areas of Surat city Kakodara and Sarthana with the quickly normalising situation in most parts of the city.

However curfew in the nine areas of Ahmedabad city including Ghatlodiya ,the assembly constituency of the CM has not been lifted as yet. The five areas of Mahesana including Unjha, Vinsnagar, Vijapur and Kadi were also under curfew.

SP Mahesana JP Mothiliya told UNI that two columns of the army has also been deployed in the affected areas along with the para military and the police.

Rajkot collector Manisha Chandra said that despite improvement in the situation in this central part of Saurashtra, the whole district would be under prohibitory orders (section 144) till August 31.

SP Jamnagar Pardeep Shejul said that the city has not seen any major violence and the life was completely normal there.

Over 200 vehicles including 98 buses, 15 police posts and several police vehicles and government offices were burnt by the protestors in the last two days in the state following the violence that erupted after the arrest of PAAS convener Hardik Patel on August 25 after his kranti rally in support of the demand of inclusion of the Patel community in OBC category for reservation benefits.
