As a unique tribute to the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (Save the girl child) campaign of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 65th birthday on September 17, various NGOs in Surat city will adopt 65 girls from extremely poor families to take care of their educational, livelihood, health and other needs as a ‘symbolic birthday gift’ to the former Gujarat Chief Minister.
Representative of Rashtra Sena Sangathan, Mr. Vinod Jain and Retired Gazetted Police Officers Association G P Purave, two such leading NGOs, today said that to select the most eligible 65 girl children for adoption a helpline had already been started. ‘We would short list the most eligible from the applications received through the helpline and other sources. The food, schooling, education and all other needs of these girls would be taken care of. As Beti Bachao is one the most pet programmes of Mr. Modi, our endeavor would be the best possible birthday gift from us to him ,’ Mr Jain informed saying it was also the best possible way to celebrate Mr. Modi’s 65 th birthday.
‘Many other NGOs and even public and private sector banks have come forward to join our programme and proposed to adopt some of the 65 girls. Three more NGOs and charitable organisations -Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Charitable Trust, Jalaram Yuva Mandal and Rajasthan Jain Samaj are also actively participating,’ Mr. Jain said.
Notably Surat, famous as diamond city, had also shown great generosity during the famous fund raising suit auction of the Prime Minister earlier this year.
