Afva in Gujarat is first village to have total underground electricity line

Afva village in Bardoli taluka of Surat district has become perhaps the first village in India to have total underground electricity and telephone lines.
The village has population of around 2,500 people. As most of the families have someone settled abroad, a 12-member committee has been formed in America to make contribution to native village’s development. So far the overseas committee has spent Rs 4 crore for beautification of this village. Dipak Patel(Sardar) has contributed Rs 1 crore while Pankajbhai Patel has contributed Rs 50 lakh for this cause.
All electricity and telephone lines are now underground in this village. Wiring for CCTV network has been completed. 80 out of 150 houses in this village have internet connection. Each locality has 3-light LED poles. Automatic drip irrigation system has been laid to feed water to around 500-700 trees. Paver blocks and mineral water project are other highlights of this village.
