New AI flight for Surat,passengers to be welcomed with lotuses

The city of Surat today will get a new daily evening flight of Air India today.

For other cities this could be a simple thing, but for Surat it’s very special development. The new flight has been gained after continuous efforts by members of parliament, traders and common citizens. It has been gained after series of meetings in Delhi and Surat, huge lobbying and even a bank guarantee for certain seats.

Though Surat is Gujarat’s second largest and world’s one of the fastest developing cities, if you compare it with Maharashtra’s second largest city which is Pune, the proper air connectivity is lacking. The city fought for getting an airport, then fight continued for air connectivity and even today the fight is continuing for further air connectivity.

It is learnt that for a new flight starting today, Air India has taken Rs 3 crore bank guarantee from certain industrialists in Surat. Local MP CR Patil played mediator in this deal. As per memorandum of understanding(MoU) between Air India and Textile traders in Surat, out of total 168 seats of Airbus320 plane, 118 seats will be sold at price rate of Rs 4500 around.

The new flight AI 489 will leave Delhi at 5.55 pm and reach Surat at 7.35 pm. It will leave Surat at 8.25 pm and reach Delhi at 10.05 pm.

Local BJP workers are going to welcome the passengers arriving in the first flight with lotuses.

The aircraft will be given water canon salute.

According to Air India’s state level officer Mr Nirbhik Kumar, the new flight will provide single ticket/boarding/luggage clearance international connectivity to Chicago, San Fransisco, London and Singapore through Star Alliance from Delhi. For international connectivity, custom procedures will take place at Delhi airport.
