Gujarat HC orders protection for Congress party’s Dahod District Panchayat members
December 25, 2015
Ahmedabad/Dahod
The Gujarat High Court today ordered security for elected members of Dahod district panchayat representing Congress party.
A meeting to elect new president and vice president of Dahod district panchayat is going to be held tomorrow.
Congress members had filed plea to ensure proper security for its elected members at the time of election for the post of president and vice president of Dahod district panchayat, citing recent violence in the campus of district panchayat during the election process which ultimately had to be postponed twice.

Justice AG Uraizee in his order directed provision of police protection to approximately 25 members from Gandhiangar to Dahod and back. The court asked to coordinate DySP Gandhinagar Mr GG Jasani with Congress leader and retired Additional DG VV Rabari on behalf of petitioners for this.
The court also directed that one of the elected members of Congress party Mr Rameshbhai who is hospitalized in Dahod should be brought in an ambulance from the hospital to the venue of election under police protection subject to medical advice.
The court asked Collector, Dahod and District Development Officer to remain present in the meeting and ensure smooth election and also asked all members to cooperate.
It should be mentioned that meeting to elect president and vice president of Dahod district panchayat could not take place twice during this week due to disturbance created by elected members of BJP who alleged that Congress had produced fake persons as elected members in district panchayat meeting. First such meeting to elect president and vice president saw violence outside the district panchayat office. A bus and other vehicles were burnt. The election for district panchayat members was held last month in which Congress had got paper thin majority. Switch over of one or two members could change the political situation in district panchayat. Apprehending this, Congress had taken all its elected members to tour and kept them at unidentified place. Members were carried in bus twice in Dahod and once for a press conference in Ahmedabad.
