Dahod

Congress councilor Ramilaben Bhuria was today elected president of Dahod district panchayat during its general body meeting which held amid tight security, collector M A Gandhi said.

Another councilor from the party Parshotam Chauhan was elected deputy president of the loacl body in which elections for the top posts could not take place twice this week due to violent ruckus created by the members of BJP who alleged that Congress had brought fake people to the house posing them as elected members.

Both the president and deputy president were elected by a thin margin of 26-24 defeating their rival BJP candidates, the collector said.

The High Court has yesterday asked the local administration and police to ensure the security of the congress members to conduct free and fair election for the posts.

Congress has won 26 while BJP got 24 seats during the election held on November 29. A member of Congress who was injured during the incident of violence in which three vehicles including a bus were also torched near the Panchyat office, also came to participate in the general body meet. To prevent any horse trading the Congress party has kept the flock of its 25 councilors together in Gandhinagar from where they were brought for voting here today.
