Rs 1213 crore Mumbai – Vadodara DFC electrification contract awarded

Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) Corporation has awarded a major contract to an Indo-Japanese consortium for electrification work of 422-km-long railway section between Vadodara to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (Mumbai) of Western DFC.

The contract worth Rs 1213 crore was awarded to a consortium of Sojitz Corporation, Japan and Larsen & Toubro Ltd, India on January 21.

With this, DFCCIL has placed contracts for the electrification of its 1337-km-route from Rewari to JNPT (Mumbai) of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).

The work includes design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of 2×25 kv overhead equipments, traction sub-stations, auxiliary stations, switching stations and auto transformer stations.

DFCC, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), is engaged in planning, construction, operation and maintenance of the dedicated freight corridors and in the first phase, the two corridors, namely Eastern Corridor from Ludhiana to Dankuni (1840 Kms) and Western Corridor from Dadri to Jawahar Lal Nehru Port (JNPT) (1502 Kms) are being constructed.

The Western Corridor is being funded by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), while the Eastern Corridor from Mughalsarai to Ludhiana is being funded by the World Bank.
