Ahmedabad

The Western Railway is running a Mela Special Non Stop train between Ahmedabad and Ujjain late tonight in the wake of the increasing rush on the fag end of the Simhastha Kumbh which started on April 22 and is to conclude on May 21.

Spokesperson of the Ahmedabad division of the Western Railway, Mr. Pradeep Sharma said that the Mela Special non stop train for Ujjain will depart at 2300 hrs tonight from platform number 7 of Ahmedabad railway station.

The train being run to clear the extra rush has 15 General Coaches and one 3AC Coach. Booking for 3AC is available at the current counter at Ahmedabad station. There won’t be any stoppage for the train as it would run non stop till Ujjain, the religious city in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, he said.

The Ujjain Kumbh or Simhasth is celebrated when Jupiter ascends into sun sign Leo’s quarter or the Simha constellation of zodiac, which is why it is called ‘Simhastha’. The Simhastha is special in Ujjain as it is the seat of divine Mahakal – the Lord of all times. The ritual of bathing in the holy waters of Kshipra begins on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Chaitra (March-April) and continues on various dates until the full moon shows up in the following month of Vaishakha.
