August 04, 2016
Gandhinagar: Gujarat Government today alleged that the ‘belated’ Gujarat visit of BSP supremo Mayawati to meet the Una incident victims was politically motivated and has been taken up keeping in mind the next year’s assembly polls in the state.
Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramanlal Vora told newsmen here that the Una dalit flogging incident was painful and condemnable and many people visited Gujarat after it.
‘But the such a late visit (of Mayawati) raises a big question. The incident took place on July 11 and the state government took immediate steps but she has come now,’ the minister said
He also questioned why the BSP leader was not visiting the victims of even bigger incidents of Dalit atrocity in UP, Bihar and Karnatka.
The Minister alleged that She chose to come to Gujarat as assembly elections were due to be held next year. ‘Her trip is political and election-centered,’ he said.
Will she go to Karnataka, Bihar and UP where even bigger incidents of Dalit atrocity took place after Una incident, Mr Vora said adding that he condemns each and every of these incidents.
‘Our government took immediate steps. We filed FIR as soon as the Una incident came to our notice. Six of the culprits were booked under strong sections. The CID-crime was looking for all the culprits seen in the video footage of the incident. Despite this if someone makes politics out of it, it was not fare,’ he said.
