August 24, 2016
Chandigarh: The Punjab government tonight decided to transfer the case of murderous attack on RSS leader Brigadier (retd) Jagdish Kumar Gagneja to CBI.
“The government has decided to transfer the investigation into the murderous attack on RSS vice president Brig (retd) Jagdish Kumar Gagneja to the CBI in order to nab the alleged perpetrators and their anti-national co-conspirators residing in foreign countries,” an official spokesman said here.
Senior RSS leader Gagneja was shot at and critically wounded by some unidentified motocycle-borne assailants in Jyoti Chowk area in Jalandhar on August 6. He was later shifted to a hospital in Ludhiana where he is undergoing treatment.
The decision to this effect was taken in view of the need for a strong inter-agency approach to bring the accused as well as their foreign co-conspirators to book, the spokesperson said.
Earlier, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police, headed by Director of Bureau of Investigations IPS Sahota, was probing the case.
Punjab Police had registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and Arms Act in Jalandhar on August 6 in connection with the incident.
