Garba goers wish for no rain, but for farmers, its raining ‘gold’
October 03, 2016
Ahmedabad/Rajkot/Surat:
Rains in many parts of the state with some seeing over four to five inches in a matter of few hours today seems hail bent to spoil the pleasure of Garba once again on the third consecutive night of Navratri tonight with disappointed Khelaiyas seemingly uttering the famous nursery rhyme ‘Rain Rain Go Away- Come Again Another Day, Little Johny Wants To Play’.
But howsoever ‘harsh’ and ‘villainous’ the rain seems to the younger lot desperate to dance and merry-making during this most colorful festival of Gujarat, It is in fact raining ‘gold’ for the farmers.
A leading businessman of Rajkot Marketing Yard Shivlal Khodasara agreed and said that the rains were very good for the Cotton and Groundnut crops. ‘Farmers will be highly benefited from it. In a sense it is raining gold,’ he said.

Notably, 2016 is a La Nina year during which late spells of rains (during September and October) are a common phenomenon. So far Gujarat has only seen around 84% of the average monsoon rain this season. It seems that the last spell of the rains will make it up to some extent.
Over 50 big public organizing of Garba in Ahmedabad alone and many in other cities including Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, Surat etc is taking place. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated the main state level Garba veneu at GMDC ground here on the first night where things went helter-skelter later owing to sudden advent of rains with strong winds.
Navratri is of 10 days (Oct 1 to 10) this year instead of usual nine owing to the first tithi (Pratipada) being on two days.
#AhmedabadRain and #Garba deadly mix for traffic chaos. Avoid every road. 🙂 #Ahmedabad
