Budget 2017: Gujarat govt proposes to change the name of Agriculture department

Gandhinagar; Gujarat government has taken a decision to change the name of Agriculture and Cooperatives department to Agriculture, Cooperative and Farmers Welfare department. This announcement was made by Finance minister Nitin Patel in his budget speech in the Gujarat assembly today.
Finance Minister presenting the budget announced increase in farmers subsidy from existing 50% to 70% for drip irrigation. Subsidy for Schedule Tribe will be 85% instead of earlier 75%. He proposed Rs 313 crore allocation for this.
Other announcements include Rs 82 crore for Organic Agriculture University. Conversion of Dang district and Dharampur, Kaprada and Vansda talukas into organic agriculture areas, Rs 200 crore for fencing protection to farms against menace of pigs, rose and other animals. 1% interest rate for crop loan to 14 lakh farmers.
