Gujarat govt tables Justice MB Shah Commission report in assembly

Gandhinagar: Gujarat government today finally tabled the Justice M B Shah commission report in the assembly here on the last day of the budget session.

Opposition Congress had repeatedly demanded the tabling of the report of the commission which was constituted by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi under retired justice M B Shah of supreme court of India for probe in to the allegations of corruption against him and his own government.

Dy CM Nitin Patel after tabling the around 5000 page report in 22 volumes, said that no allegations of corruption inquired by the commission was proved. ‘We were repeatedly saying this. The commission had given clean-chit to the government on all the allegations including the ones of transfer of lands to Industrial houses. Now the report as wished by Congress has been tabled and it is a public property. Any MLA can study this,’ he said.

Meanwhile, all the congress MLA’s were suspended from the proceedings of the house for both the sittings today. The congress members including women MLAs had come in the house wearing banners which termed BJP president as General Dyer and demanded apology from him (for his scathing remarks against Congress in his speech in the house yesterday). Demand to table M B Shah commission report was also written on the banners worn by the Cong MLA’s.

They were on a silent demonstration when the report was tabled.
When they refused to end their demonstration despite repeated request from speaker, they were suspended from the house.

Notably, leader of opposition Shankersinh Vaghela was not present in the house today as he had left for Delhi this morning on the sudden call from the high command along with party president Bharatsinh Solanki.

Vaghela had strongly put forth the demand of tabling of the report saying if this was not done he would presume that the then Chief Minister Modi and his government were involved in corruption and the present BJP government was trying to save his skin.
He had repeatedly questioned the non-tabling of the report in the house despite passage of over 4 years since it was presented to the cabinet.

The state government had countered his claims saying that the commission had given a clean chit on all the allegations and there were some technical aspects which were being worked upon through a committee which is to be re-structured.
