Gujarat govt makes correction in rooftop solar power policy, removes 50% limit of connected power load
April 13, 2017
Gandhinagar: Even as Gujarat is a leading state in harnessing solar energy in the country, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today announced important amendment in the Rooftop Solar Project Policy for Homes by removing the condition of the solar plant’s capacity to be within 50 per cent limit of the sanctioned load.
He announced the relaxation to redress the difficulties faced by the people in optimum utilization of the rooftop solar plant. The citizen with even low sanctioned load could now go all out for maximum utilization of the capacity.
Gujarat had announced the rooftop solar plant policy in late-2015. The latest relaxation would provide economic benefit not only to the citizens, but also to the state’s economy by greater harnessing of renewable source of energy, protecting the environment at the same time. The decision would give credibility to the state government’s pro-people decisive and progressive policies, he said.
However, there would not be any change in the government’s subsidy scheme of Rs.10.000 per kW, subject to maximum limit of 2kW.
The state has at present solar energy generation capacity of 1266.9 megawatt, which is proposed to be raised further.
