Fire in Sal Hospital in Ahmedabad, over 100 rescued safely, no casualty

Ahmedabad: Over a hundred people including patients and their relatives were safely rescued during a fire that broke out in SAL hospital, a well known private medical facility. in the city situated close to drive in road in Thaltej area.
Additional Chief Fire Officer Rajesh Bhatt said that the fire started in the store area on the third floor of the hospital most likely owing to short circuit.
‘Around 27 fire fighting vehicles were rushed to the spot after getting the call and the fire was completely controlled after over two hours long operation at around 9 pm,’ he said.
‘There was not even a single casualty in the incident and we have safely evacuated more than 100 people including patients and their relatives’, he said.
The extent of damage was not yet known. It would be estimated later, a hospital management team member said.
The fire control office said that the call was received at around 7 pm this evening and all the four senior officers and the team rushed there immediately.
Notably the incident has taken place close on heels of the incident of a blast in the chemical lab of Sal Engineering & Technical Institute, an educational institute of the same group, on May 13. Five girl students of the institute situated on Sola Bhadaj Road in the city had sustained burn injuries and were treated in the same hospital where the incident of fire today took place.
