Old Mundra port to be operational again
July 08, 2017
Bhuj: Approval has been granted to allow export of rice from old Mundra port which functions under Gujarat Maritime Board.
According to BM Gohil, Secretary of Mundra Port Users Association, the old Mundra port was non-functional for some time due to lack of electronic data system of Customs department. On the other hand, berthing charge at new Mundra port run by Adani was unbearable for desi ship(dhow) owners and operators.
In response to representations made by dhow operators, the government of India has recently given approval to set up data system at old Mundra port. This will make it possible to operate yearly 100-150 dhows that are expected to export one lakh tonne rice annually.
