Three independent candidates win Gujarat election
December 19, 2017
Gandhinagra: Independents who generally take away around 5% vote share regularly in Gujarat assembly elections have this time all together got 4.3% or 12,90,052 votes.
Out of three independent candidates who are successful, one Jignesh Mevani is supported by Congress. He is elected from reserved seat Vadgam for scheduled caste. Another two independents elected are Bhupendrasinh Khant from Morva Hadaf and Ratansinh Rathod from Lunavada – both in Central Gujarat.
It’s worth noting that Bhupendrasinh Khant is husband of late Congress MLA Savitaben Khant who had won the assembly election in 2012 but was dead before taking oath.
