Over 500 hooligans booked for yesterday’s violent protests in Surat

Surat:
Police in Surat city has lodged cases against over 500 hooligans in connection with yesterday’s ruckus in the name of anti Padmawat protests including over 200 such protesters who misbehaved with a lady police official.
A Police official said that a lady PSI has filed a case under various sections of IPC against a crowd of 250 people for mistreating her and obstructing her during her duty.
A case against around 300 hooligans for yesterdays incident of violence and attack on a city bus has also been lodged in Katargam police station.
Two similar cases against around 40 to 50 people have also been lodged in Umra and Kadodara police stations.
Notably Anti Padmawat protests had gripped this southern city of Gujarat yesterday afternoon as members of Karni Sena, Mahakal Sena and seemingly many anti-social elements held violent demonstrations in various parts of the city.
Police had to resort to baton charge in Katargam area of the city when they attacked a city bus and damaged its window panes.
The protesters crossing limits also heckled the local PI in Kakodara area of the city near Kakodara crossing where he was trying to control their hooliganism.
In a similar incident near parbat Patiya in Puna locality of the city a lady police officer was also mistreated by protesters.
