Extremely heavy downpour continues in parts of South Gujarat, Waghai receives over 8 inches today, met issues fresh warning for next 4 days

Heavy to exmtremely heavy rainfall continued in parts of South Gujarat on the second consecutive day today even which prompted the met department issue fresh rainfall warning changing its yesterday’s announcement that rainfall would be subdued in the next 4 days.

44 Talukas in 11 districts of Gujarat witnessed rain till 6pm today with Waghai in Dangs district seening the maximum of 219mm (over 8 inches) from 6am to 6pm today. Subir taluka in the same district saw 207 mm while Ahwa saw 175mm. Uchchhal in Tapi district was fourth highest rain getter with 85mm while Vagra in Bharuch saw 59 mm.

Yesterday 85 talukas of 21 districts had seen rain with Songadh in Tapi district seenig the maximum of 235mm, Wagahi seening 168mm and Sagabara in Narmada district 143mm. Though the extremely heavy rain lashed parts of South and South Central Gujarat yet only 9 talukas saw over 2 inches of rain.

Due to heavy rainfall several rivers including Ambika, Purna, Damanganga, Orsang etc in the Southern and central region of the state have surged. Dosawada dams has overflown. Several causeways and road have submerged. A person trapped in flooded Damanganga river due to opening of 8 sluice gates of Madhuvan dam was rescued safely today. Alerts have been issued for the low-lying areas especially on the river banks have been issued.

Today, the met bulletin said that Heavy to very heavy rains with extremely heavy falls very likely at isolated places in the districts of South Gujarat region namely Valsad, Navsari, Dang, Tapi and adjoining UTs of Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli today as well as next 4 days. On July 10 and 11 heavy rains very likely at isolated places in the districts of Saurashtra namely Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir Somnath and in the UT of Diu.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over South Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan and Off shore trough extending from South Gujarat coast to South Kerala Coast also persists.
