Ahmedabad:
After several embarrassment this monsoon so far due to numerous ‘cave-ins’ on roads of this largest city of Gujarat, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is now contemplating to change the over 40 year old underground sewer-lines to tackle this recurring problem effectively.
Talking to newsmen today AMC commissioner Vijay Nehra, said that the old sewer lines were seemingly responsible for around 80% cases of cave-ins.
He said that so far this year 59 cave-ins have been reported in the city which was somewhat high number looking at the less rain the city has received so far.

Nehra, said that around 42 km long sewer line in the city was 40 years or more old. A list of such old sewer lines has been prepared. Wherever possible these will be changed and at other places adequate repair and upgradation would be done.
Notably, such cave-ins this year were causing major embarrassment to the local body. On August 18, a car was trapped in one of it near Pallaw crossing in Naranpura area of the city.
Earlier a big cave-in was made near a metro structure in Vejalpur.
