Only Rs. 8 lakh family income per annum criteria to be applicable for 10% EWS quota benefit in Gujarat govt jobs and education: Nitin Patel

Gandhinagar: Gujarat cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today took decision to follow only criteria of income to give benefit of 10% economic weaker section quota in state government jobs and educational institutes.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said, family income below Rs. 8 lakh per annum shall be the only criteria for general category applicants who want benefit under 10% EWS quota. Other criteria such as size of plot, house, farm land will not be effective in Gujarat so far as state govt jobs and educational institutes are concerned. Patel added that for central government jobs and educational institute admissions, criteria of size of farm land, house, plot etc will be applicable
‘Income of mother, father, sister/brother in total per annum must be less than Rs. 8 lakh per annum to get benefit under EWS quota. This is the only criteria to get EWS quota benefit for non-reserved class in Gujarat as per today’s cabinet decision,’ Nitin Patel said.
Gujarat govt approved educational institutes will add 10% additional seats for implementation of 10% EWS quota, said Patel adding that Gujarat government will allot budget for that.
Patel said, 33% reservation for women will be effective within 10% EWS quota in State govt recruitment.
He said notification in this regard will be out in next one or two days so that govt. job recruitment paused in order to implement 10% EWS quota can be resumed.
Patel said merit will be a criteria in 10% EWS quota.
Those living in Gujarat before 1978 will be suitable for 10% EWS quota in Gujarat govt jobs/education, said Patel.
He said official not below the level of Mamlatdar will be able to issue certificate to suitable EWS beneficiaries.
