Another jolt to Togadia, Gujarat Charity Commissioner cancels registration of controversial VHP (Uttar Gujarat Prant) Trust
August 28, 2019
Ahmedabad: In yet another jolt to former VHP leader Pravin Togadia, who had to quit the right-wing outfit in April 2018 unceremoniously, the office of the Gujarat Charity Commissioner today cancelled the registration of a controversial trust of his loyalists.
Regional Secretary of Gujarat VHP Ashok Rawal said, ‘ the revision application filed by us before the Charity Commissioner of Gujarat at Ahmadabad for cancellation of the registration of the trust ” Vishwa Hindu Parishad ( Uttar Gujarat Prant ) Ahmedabad” has been allowed today. The registration of the said trust is now cancelled.”
Notably the trust was made during the tenure of Togadia as the working president of VHP and it had him and his loyalists in it. The trust had become a bone of contention due to its rent agreement with another trust that owned the building here in which VHP’s state headquarter was situated for years.
On February 9 this year the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) state head-office building in Paldi area of Ahmedabad city of Gujarat had witnessed police deployment to prevent a possible clash between the members of VHP and that of Togadia led Antarashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP- which he formed after quitting VHP).
The head-office building known as Vanikar Bhavan which is owned by Vanikar Smarak Bhavan Trust was being used by Togadia as the virtual head-office of AHP even after he left VHP. Togadia had also allegedly started work for his political party from this building.
Rawal claimed that to increase his personal clout over the VHP during his tenure Togadia had illegally and without the knowledge to many of the outfit people formed the trust whose registration was challenged by him. The building was meant for VHP and not any other trust made in its name illegally.
Currently, the matter of possession of the building in court.
