15 more nabbed in connection with Shah-e-Alam violence, total 64 arrested so far: Spl CP Tomar

Ahmedabad: 15 more people have been arrested in connection with violence during anti CAA/NRC protests in Shah-e-Alam area of Ahmedabad city taking the number of total arrests in this case to 64 so far, special police commissioner Ajay Tomar today said.
He said that the 15 more nabbed in this connection were directly involved in the rioting and stone pelting.
Notably, 49 of the total 50 named accused including a local Congress corporator were arrested yesterday. 5000 unnamed people have also been made accused in the case for violence that took place on December 19. A total of 26 police personnel including DCP, ACP, PI and PSI rank officials were injured in stone pelting by mob in the Muslim dominated area of the old city. Police had tried to stop a rally against the CAA/NRC which was being taken out without permission when the crowd become unruly.
CCTV footage showing rioters pelting stones mercilessly on police officials from close quarters have gone viral after the incident.
PI of Isanpur police station J M Solanki had lodged the case in his police station under various sections of IPC including those pertaining to attempt to murder, rioting and sections of Damage to Public property Act and also Gujarat police Act. Congress corporator from Danilimada Shazad Pathan had already been arrested.
Raids were being conducted to nab others involved in the incident. The CCTV footage has been sent to FSL for identification of other culprits.
Notably, police had to resort to tear gas shelling and baton charge to disperse the mob.
The 49 accused nabbed yesterday have been taken on remand for further investigation and interrogation while the 15 arrested would also be produced in a court here for their police custody.
