‘Ashram’ of controversial Swami Nithyananda in Gujarat demolished

Ahmedabad: The building of the Ashram of controversial Swami Nithyanada in Hathijan area here has been demolished by the authorities.

Police said that AUDA has demolished the Ashram structure erected illegally on the land leased in unlawful way by the Kalorex foundation which ran controversy marred DPS East school. The Ashram was given around 20 thousand square yard of land by the Kalorex foundation.

Notably, the Ashram in Vivekanadnagar police station area of the city was in limelight for wrong reasons this year when a former disciple of the controversial god-man had filed a case alleging that his minor children and a two young daughters have been kidnapped by the Ashram authorities and Swami Nithyananda.

Later amid hue and cry, during investigation it was found that the DPS East School management had unlawfully handed over land to the Ashram for its operations. The school also had to face the music for it as its principal was arrested in this connection.

An AUDA official today said that demolition of the illegally erected ashram structure has been done in accordance with law and under intimation to the police and education department.

The Ashram also used to run a school on the ground. Two of its Sadhvis including the main local care taker were arrested in connection with the case filed by former disciple Tamilnadu based Janardan Sharma who was handed over two of his minor children. Two of his elder daughters have not appeared in Gujarat High Court here in connection with the habeas corpus writ petition filed by him.

They have reiterated that they were living with Nithyanada willingly.
