FIR in Shahpur stone pelting over police: 71 tear gas shells were lobbed, 17 accused nabbed

Ahmedabad: More updates on yesterday’s attack on police by stone pelters in Shahpur area of city.

Complainant HB Chauhdary, Police Sub Inspector has in his complaint stated that local residents of this area were not allowing barricading (related to Covid19 containment zone), however thanks to police bandobast, barricading task could be completed. Locals were often arguing with one or two police men deployed there, so as per the instruction of DCP zone-2, effective police patrolling was conducted from Rangila chowky to Shahpur Adda and Sarkiwad Rajaji ni pol, Shahpur Vad, Shahpur Mill compound etc areas. Accordingly Police, SRP and RAF patrolling team were out with two PCR van, one mobile van and govt videographer.

When senior police inspector RK Amin led patrolling team was out for foot patrolling, at 6.15 pm three persons were spotted sitting outside near Shahpur ready made stores in Shahpur Adda area. When they were instructed not to venture out during lockdown, they shouted and some other persons also joined them and shouted loudly that today police should be taught a lesson and not be allowed to go alive from here. Soon around 2,000 persons gathered there and as per a pre-planned conspiracy started pelting stones and caused injuries including head injury to police men. Police lobbed as many as 71 tear gas shells amid stone pelting.

The persons who gathered for stone pelting were from Dodiyavad, Sagarvad and Rajaji pol and those living close to Paththarwali Masjid. Police asked them on mega- phone loud speaker,to go inside, however stone pelting turned even more intense. More police staff including crime branch and senior officials arrived but stone pelting over police continued.

6 police men were injured due to stone pelting, and several vehicles were also damaged.

Police nabbed 17 persons from a mob. They are Mohammad Ubed Sheikh, Nasirkhan Pathan, Mohammad Asif Sheikh, Mohammad Imrann Sheikh, Mohammad Asif Sheikh, Gulam Ahmed Sheikh, Rafhazkhan Pathan, Mohammad Zuber Mirza, Ilmuddin Kagdi, Mohammad Rizwan Kagdi, Mohammad Rauf Sheikh, Anwar Sheikh, Zakir Hussain Kagdi, Bazar Kagdi, Mahemud Hussain Sheikh, Sohail Sheikh and Mushtak Sheikh.

Accused are booked under PIC 307, 337, 332, 333, 186, 143, 145, 147, 149, 151, 152, 188, 120B, 427 and Disaster Management act section 51B.
