Junagadh: In a sad news, a Lion aged 4 to 5 years hit by a moving goods train to Pipavav Port is dead after battling for life for three days in Sakkarbag Zoo based medical facility here.
A lion was hit by train near Uncheya village in Rajula belt of Amreli district in the morning on 16 February. It was first taken to Babarkot animal care centre and after primary treatment it was transferred to Sakkarbag zoo through dedicated ambulance for Lions.
As its injury was serious in nature, the lion died during treatment after three days.
This incident has once again thrown serious questions on vulnurability of lions in the area through which heavy goods trains to and from Pipavav Port pass everday. The forest department employs 40 trackers for safety of lions against movement of trains. The government had also in the past announced fencing along the railtrack.
Injured lion had injuries on head and on the back. Earlier it was reported that it had suffered only leg injury.
