Inauguration of much awaited Pal – Umra river bridge in Surat likely in next week

Surat: Pal-Umra Bridge will be inaugurated in around the second week of July as declared by Leader of Ruling Party Amitsinh Rajput in a general meeting of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday. The possible date of inauguration could be 11th July 2021.
The construction work of this bridge was pending due to litigation by some house owners. Demolition of these houses on approach of one end of the bridge was required as they were obstructing the approach construction work. On 29th November 2020, Gujarat High Court had cleared demolition of obstructing houses and SMC had agreed to allot plots, construction cost and compensation amount to house owners.
Pal-Umra bridge will be the 14th river bridge over Tapi in Surat. It connects Adajan area with Athwalines, Nanpura, Chowk Bazaar, Umra and other areas. The bridge will contribute in reducing traffic burden at cable-stayed bridge and Athwalines bridge and the journey to airport, Pal, Umra, Rander and Athwa will be speedier through this bridge.
