L&T Hazira achieves success in making of specialized steel alloy plates

Hazira(Surat): L & T and AM/NS India have jointly developed alloy steel plates for use into steam generators in Nuclear Reactors after years long trials.

NPCIL (Nuclear Power Corporation of India) had to bear heavy expenses for importing the critical alloy steel grade from the steel-mills of Europe for the Nuclear program of the Government of India. The trials for producing the first bench of specialist steel alloy plates was being conducted for several years at L&T Heavy Engineering, Hazira. Finally, last Friday the success of the trial under Atma-Nirbhar Bharat spirit was marked.

16Mo3 grade plates are one of the most important spare-parts of the steam generators and they can function under heavy temperature, pressure and radio-active operating conditions. The plates developed jointly by both the companies will be used for heavy-water reactors. The plates are produced for the first time in India which is a major success of the nation. DeshGujarat
