For the first time, a Rail Ro Ro ferry ship which can carry entire train arrives in Gujarat

Bhavnagar: A Rail RO-RO ferry ship named MV Bala has arrived at Alang Ship-recycling yard for the demolition. This kind of Rail RO RO ferry ship has arrived for the first time in Alang Ship Breaking Yard for demolition.

The ship can carry trains on its deck. It has a dedicated railway track on the lower and upper deck. The RO-RO Ship is beached at plot no. 4 of Alang Ship recycling yard. A duration of around 5 months will be required for dismantling the ship totally.

This RO-RO ship was originally built by MHI Nagasaki Shipyard & Engine works in Nagasaki, Japan. It was originally named as M.V. Bali Sea and later the name was changed to MV Bala. The vessel was built in 1982 (39 years old) and lastly sailed under the flag of Singapore. Its name have changed from Dal Lifter in 1982 to Super Servant 5 in 1985 to Bali Sea in 1995.

The ship’s carrying capacity is 24201 gross tonnage. Its length overall is 175.38 meters and width is 35.84 meters.

The End-buyer of MV Bala Mr Amit Dathawala informed that he has purchased the RO RO Ship MV Bala for the recycling purpose. DeshGujarat
