PM Modi to dedicate and perform ground breaking for development projects at Prabhas Patan Somnath

Prabhas Patan: Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi will virtually dedicate and perform ground breaking for various development projects in Prabhas Patan on 20th August.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate a 1.48 km long promenade built at a cost of Rs. 47.12 crore and exhibition gallery readied under PRASHAD scheme of the Central government. He will also inaugurate renovated and expanded Shiv Mandir originally built by Ahilyabai. This work has been done by Shri Somnath Trust. The Prime Minister will perform ground breaking for construction of a new Parvati Mandir. This Rs. 30 crore initiative is to be completed through private donors.

The promenade which is to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister has provision of lighting, street furniture, colorful tetrapod, benches for ocean view. It would be known as Samudra Darshan Path. The walk way will also have wall paintings depicting religious tales.

The Tourist Facilitation Centre which is to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister will also have a museum inside housing an exhibition gallery, an auditorium and more.

The expansion of Shri Ahilyabai Mandir Parisar has been completed at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crore. The key interventions involve accessibility intervention ramp, sitting arrangement (courtyard 270 sq m), 15 shops on either side of courtyard, 2 halls (fist floor) – 155 sqm and lift shaft. Through the project, rejuvenation of old structure, safety and convenience of pilgrims, capacity augmentation of temple premises and organized shop areas are achieved.

The construction of Shri Parvati Mandir will involve Rs. 30 crore cost which will be spent through private donations. Proposed temple will be constructed in Sompura salats style. Its garbha griha will be 380 sq.m. and nritya mandap will be 1250 sq.m. in size.

The program will be held at Shree Ram Mandir auditorium of Shri Somnath Trust in Prabhas Patan. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat CM Vijaybhai Rupani will also join this program virtually.

A waste management plant for the disposal of solid-waste which include a waste segregation unit, bio waste compost unit( including temple waste, guest house and kitchen waste and gaushala waste) will also be inaugurated.

It’s worth noting that PRASHAD projects for Rs. 45.36 crore Somnath Phase – 1 were sanctioned in March 2017 and inaugurated in July 2020. The museum portion of Phase-1 however was yet to be inaugurated. It will be inaugurated virtually by the Prime Minister now with inauguration of Rs. 47.12 crore Somnath Promenade project which was sanctioned in December 2018.
