Circular mandating 8-hour duty for primary school teachers withdrawn

Gandhinagar: Government of Gujarat today announced its decision to withdraw the recent circular that mandated 8 hours of duty for the teachers in the government primary schools. The circular was issued by the state education department. It had attracted protest from the teachers.
The government had issued this circular as per the provisions under RTE Act. State Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama had defended this circular and told media persons that like other employees of the State government, the teachers also do 8 hours duty.
Chudasama today appeared before media persons after the State cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and made announcement that the circular is withdrawn and the duty hours will be 6 hours instead of the 8 hours for the teachers working with government primary schools in the state.
