Police arrest one who dragged cop on car’s bonnet in Gandhinagar

Update: The accused has been sent to judicial custody by court

Gandhinagar: Police has registered crime against Aam Admi Party (AAP) cadre and students activist Yuvrajsinh Jadeja after he drove on and dragged a traffic constable Lakshmanbhai Vasava on the bonnet of his car on Tuesday.

Police official Abhay Chudasama informed the media persons that Jadeja has been booked under IPC section 307 which pertains to attempt to murder. Chudasama said the police constable could face serious injuries and die. Chudasama said Yuvraj stopped the car after other police men present there intervened.

Chudasama shared video footage of the incident which was captured in a dashboard camera present in Yuvrajsinh’s car. The incident had taken place at the office of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Gandhinagar. The Police had nabbed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) student leader Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, along with an accomplice, for alleged murderous attack on a policeman there and then.

Jadeja had reached SP office in Gandhinagar in support of 55 TET passed youth who are demanding recruitment. The agitators were protesting outside the State secretariat campus gate. They were detained by the police and taken to SP office compound. Yuvrajsinh Jadeja had reached there along with his accomplice Dipak Zala. Gandhinagar SP Mayur Chavda informed that Jadeja had abused and assaulted the policemen present there. Only 2-3 policemen were present there initially but Jadeja went back to his car and tried to flee after more personnel reached there, he added. Jadeja allegedly dragged one of the policemen on his bonnet for a few meters after he tried to stop his car. Victim constable Lakshman Vasava said, he was sure that Yuvrajsinh would not drive over him and therefore he went in front of the car to stop him.

Jadeja has also been booked under section 332 for causing hurt to a public servant on duty.

Yuvrajsinh is one who would source the details – sometimes right, sometimes wrong, sometimes partially right – of paper leak and copy cases in recruitment exams conducted by the State government for job vacancies and share them with media. Though he is an AAP cadre, he at times would do such activism independently. As he crossed the line of law possibly in heat of a moment, that too in a police campus, he is now facing imprisonment.
