Reverse Enrollment: 8,311 children leave private schools in favor of govt schools in Surat

Surat: There is a lot of resentment prevailing among the public about the fees being charged by private schools in the entire state, including Surat. However, owing to many factors a situation has been created in Surat that can provide food for thought. As many as 8,311 students previously studying at private schools have gotten admitted to government schools in Surat.
A lot of speculation has become rife after these figures have been revealed at the very beginning of the academic year 2022-23. Most of these 8,311 students have gotten admitted in Shikshan Samiti schools of Surat Municipal Corporation of Udhan, Limbayat, Varacha and Katargam.
While the Shala Praveshotsav was organized at the SMC’s Primary Education Committee-run schools to enroll as many children as possible in class 1. As many as 8,311 children who were attending private schools have enrolled themselves in the Shikshan Samiti-run schools in class 2 to class 8.
There are many factors responsible for this phenomenon. Parents, whose financial condition has deteriorated during the Corona pandemic, are unable to afford the fees of private schools while out-state parents have chosen government schools on account of relocation. Such reverse enrollment has predominantly happened in government schools in areas such as Katargam, Limbayat and Udhna.
About 1.71 lakh children are studying in 329 schools run by the SMC’s Shikshan Samiti. As many as 8,311 children have left private schools and enrolled at government schools in this academic year.
