Quick justice for daughters in Surat, 7 sentenced to death in speedy trial

Surat: The Surat District Court has transformed into a fast track court of sorts. The court has adopted a strict stance when it comes to serious offences such as rapes.

The court has meted out the harshest of punishments to persons who have been convicted for the offence of raping infants or minors. In the last seven months, the court has meted out capital punishment to five persons convicted for rape and murder. The trial for each of these cases was conducted at a fast pace. The local police under the supervision of senior police officers were able to file chargesheets within days from the filing of FIR and ensure that justice was done quickly in the cases.

Such verdicts by the Surat district court has instilled confidence about the judicial system among ordinary Surtis. The adoption of such a strict stance has also struck fear in the hearts of many offenders.

Convict: Harshsahay Ramraj Gurjar

An 11-yr-old girl was raped and murdered by this person. The person had first murdered the girl’s mother in front of the girl before eventually raping the girl and murdering her as well. Harshsahay was sentenced to death by hanging by the court on March 7, 2022. Another person convicted in the same case has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.

Convict: Guddu Yadav

An infant girl was murdered in Pandesara on November 4, 2021. At the end of the trial, the court announced the death sentence for Guddu Yadav on December 7, 2021. The trial in this case was completed in just 7 days.

Convict: Anil Yadav

Convict Anil Yadav had kidnapped a 5-yr-old girl in October 2018 and raped her. The girl is still receiving treatment at a hospital for the injuries she sustained during the offence. The court has held Anil Yadav guilty and sentenced him to death.

Convict: Lalansingh Gaun

Lalansingh Gaun had attempted to rape a 3 yrs and 9 month old girl after kidnapping her at night. He then murdered her by banging her head against a blunt object when the baby girl tried to put up a resistance against his actions. The trial lasted for 120 days at the end of which the court had sentenced Lalansingh to death on 26 July, 2022.

Convict: Dinesh Baisane

A 10-yr-old girl was murdered in Pandesara in 2020. The girl was first raped before striking her head with bricks and murdering her. The court had sentenced Dinesh to death on 16 December 2021. The convict had lured the girl with the promise of buying her a vada-pav but later raped her before eventually ending up murdering her as well.

Convict: Fenil Goyani

Fenil had publicly killed a 21-yr-old girl Grishma Vekariya of Pasodra in a case of one-sided love affair on February 12, 2022. The police had filed a chargesheet in this case in just 7 days and the Surat court had held a trial on a day-to-day basis. The court has sentenced Fenil to death while comparing him with terrorist Ajmal Kasab on May 5, 2022.

Convict: Tukna Budhna Das

In 2017, the father had himself raped and murdered his own daughter after taking her away from home. The entire case was cracked based on the statement given by a hawker and the convict father Tukna Budhna Das was given the death sentence.
