Ahmedabad: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) released its third list of ten candidates for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections yesterday. Within a few hours, the party was embroiled in another controversy linked to alcohol when videos and photos of its candidate Kalpesh Patel drinking and smoking hookah went viral on social media.
Kalpesh Patel aka Bhola Bhai is AAP’s candidate for the Vejalpur assembly seat from Ahmedabad. The online video questions the motto of the AAP, which claims it is a party with a difference, as Kalpesh Patel is clearly seen drinking alcohol and smoking hookah.
AAP’s candidate Kalpesh Patel was earlier in Congress. He had contested assembly poll in the past from Ellis bridge assembly seat. He then left Congress and joined AAP recently after a meeting with AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal in Ahmedabad.
Speaking to a news channel about the viral video, Dr. Rutvik Patel, the State BJP spokesperson, said, “Aam Aadmi Party is declaring the list of candidates for the assembly election. In this list, one candidate is seen in alcohol and hookah parties, the other one is accused in Rs. 300 crore corruption charges, and another one is Narmada Virodhi and was trying to snatch the rights of tribal people.”
“Both Aam Aadmi Party and its candidates say one thing and do another. The people of Gujarat are seeing how their character and wrong deeds and will give AAP an unforeseen rejection,” Patel added.
