Vadodara: Vadodara municipal corporation (VMC) started a drive to demolish unauthorised constructions in the name of religion in the city today.
The VMC team razed an unauthorised shrine in the Sahakar Nagar area of the city with the help of five JCB machines. The demolition task was done with the help of police amid protest from the Muslim community people. The Mazar was unauthorised and was creating an obstruction for the housing society to be made under PM Awas Yojana.
Earlier in the morning the VMC carried out the same kind of operation and demolished two such shrines. One Mazar in the sayajigunj area adjoining the wall of MS university and another Mazar in Soma Talav Awas Yojna.
Mayor of VMC, Mr. Keyur Rokadia, who was present at the location said – “We received a complaint that people are confiscating the land in the name of a religious place. All these constructions were not legal and were being held illegally in the name of religion.”
“VMC yesterday permitted a long-standing project of PM Awas Yojna and the Mazar was confiscating the land of this project. So today this DAM MADAR BEDA PAAR Dargah has been demolished by the corporation,” said the Mayor.
“We always take local people in confidence and even if some people are angry no one can do illegal construction on the land of corporations that is meant for development purposes. The Corporation is doing its work only,” added the Mayor of VMC.
The Standing Committee Chairmen, Dr. Hitendra said, “The corporation acts to demolish the unauthorised places from time to time, this area was evacuated long back the people were rehabilitated and today this religious structure was demolished with utmost care. In the coming time, the housing society will come up here.”
