September 15, 2022
Gandhinagar: Union Minister for Railways, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, Mr Ashwini Vaishnav, interacted with the students of IIT Gandhinagar in Gujarat and discussed the Vande Bharat Express train. The first Vande Bharat train service between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will likely start later this month.
Talking about the Semiconductor Mission of India, the Electronics minister said, “PM approved Semiconductor programme last December & we uploaded policy in January. Generally, countries take 3 years to take such decisions. But we are now in a situation where we will have 1st FAB of the country in about one year”
The minister asked IIT Gandhinagar to make a proposal before the union government to set up a semiconductor lab and 5G use case lab on its campus and join the eco-system around chip manufacturing that the government is planning to create in the country.
“5G is going to start in 1st week of October. Other countries took 3 – 4 years to roll out 5G. We are targetting 2 years to cover 80% of the country, but what’s important is, that the entire technology end-to-end is developed in India,” said the communication minister.
