Jignesh Mevani and 18 others get 6 months jail

Ahmedabad: A metro court in Ahmedabad has sentenced Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani and 18 others to six months jail in a case of protests in 2016 to rename Gujarat University’s Law Bhavan building after Dr BR Ambedkar.
The case was registered for holding a protest at Gujarat University in 2016 for naming a law dept’s building after Dr B R Ambedkar. The court has declared Mevani as a convict in this case and sentenced him with 6 month in jail along with fine.
A magisterial court in Mehsana had convicted Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani and nine others in a five-year-old case of holding an ‘Azadi march’ without permission and sentenced them to three month imprisonment. The government has appealed to increase the punishment in the case. DeshGujarat
