GujCTOC Act amended

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Assembly passed the amended Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime (GujCTOC) bill yesterday, on the first day of its two-day session.

During the session, the Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, said that the State police seized drugs worth ₹6500 last year and 740 people have been arrested in the matter so far.

Sanghavi told the Gujarat assembly that two words ‘terrorist act’ and ‘gambling’ are being removed from GujCTOC Act 2015.
“We are only dropping the word as it is being duplicated in section 2(h) and Sec 2(e). We are not removing any action against terror (contained in the Act),” the minister added.

Minister said, “the amendments will make provisions more meaningful and make them easy to interpret so that no provisions are misinterpreted during the implementation of the said Act, resulting in the unnecessary hassle to the persons in the state of Gujarat.”

The Congress MLA’s demanded to add drug-related offences, extortion, land-grabbing, contract killings, economic offences, cyber crimes and human trafficking for prostitution in the Act. However, in the reply, Sanghvi said that we will surely discuss the inclusion of drugs in the act, but due to the effort of Gujarat ATS, no one arrested in the last one year has been able to get out of custody.
